From The Roots Salon is led by master locktician and entrepreneur Michael Kuykindall. Known for precision and care, this salon helps people embrace their natural texture through protective styles, loc maintenance, and holistic hair health. It’s more than a salon it’s a space rooted in purpose and cultural pride.
But even the best in the game run into everyday friction that slows things down.

What We’re Building
The day-to-day bottleneck isn’t in styling, it’s in scheduling.
We’re developing a booking system tailored specifically to the salon’s workflow. This isn’t just a plugin install.
It’s a practical response to patterns we’ve seen firsthand:
- Manual scheduling using a physical book leads to human errors, forgotten appointments, or double bookings.
- Late cancellations or reschedules create gaps that can’t always be filled, costing time and revenue.
- Walk-ins asking to book while the stylist is mid-session interrupts flow and adds pressure.
- Exceptions made for one client create expectations for others and that spirals.
The system we’re building solves these issues with logic, not lectures.
Core Features We're Implementing
- Deposit-first logic: You can’t book without placing a deposit. It locks in your spot.
- Accountability rules: If a client cancels too close to the appointment window, the deposit is forfeited. No back-and-forth.
- Smart queueing: If someone cancels, the system notifies the next eligible person in line and VIPs get first access.
- VIP rules: Certain clients bypass limits. They get priority based on internal tiers set by the business.
- Phone-free convenience: No more flipping through books or calling in clients book on their phones, 24/7.
- Clarity + control: The website becomes the source of truth. Rules are visible. Expectations are set. Fewer texts. Fewer calls. Fewer headaches.
